What is called </span></span></span><span style="font-family: ’Times New Roman’, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><em>Sindrom Italia</em></span></span></span><span style="font-family: ’Times New Roman’, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"> is also examined: this interpretation of distress presented as consequence of migration is becoming increasingly common among Romanian psychiatrists and in public and media arena. Both children left behind and </span></span></span><span style="font-family: ’Times New Roman’, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><em>Sindrom</em></span></span></span><span style="font-family: ’Times New Roman’, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><em>Italia</em></span></span></span><span style="font-family: ’Times New Roman’, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"> contribute to blaming migrant women, and to spreading a moral panic, hiding both the women’s efforts of to maintain ties in the diaspora, and the economic and structural reasons behind the migration.
