Leggere un’onda: la migrazione nel Mediterraneo tra deterrenza, ambiente e oblio - Reading a Wave: Migration in the Mediterranean between Deterrence, Environment, and Oblivion

Recent attention to climate change has highlighted its role in worsening living conditions and affecting migration toward Europe. At the same time, environmental and atmospheric conditions also obstruct these journeys, particularly where states exploit space as a deterrent, as in the Darién Gap, the Sonoran Desert, and the Mediterranean Sea. The latter has become both a crime scene and an archive of disappearances and shipwreck deaths. This text explores the relationship between migration, environment, and border violence through forensic science, asking how the sea shapes death, leaves traces on bodies, affects identification, and resists complete subordination to border control policies.
