Abstract

This contribution focuses on the popular devotion to Our Lady
of Porto Salvo on Lampedusa, looking at the transformations that have
reconfigured it over time as a prism through which to analyse the tensions
between local dynamics and global forces that affect the island. The article
suggests that the study of the sacred cartography of the contemporary
Mediterranean should be part of the process of “remapping” of the network
of interactions, connections, and hybridisations that characterise the area.
